Our Story
Some objects have the quiet manners of another age. A ceramic vessel. A clear glass tube. A candle beneath. Ye Olde Bells takes its cue from that unhurried world, with a proper warm-steam ritual for the moments around a busy voice. Est. 2022, with a fondness for older things.
A Victorian Steam Inhaler with a Story
Our starting point is Dr. Nelson’s original Victorian earthenware inhaler, a design from 1860s London. Its distinctive vessel, side spout, and glass mouthpiece belong to a recognizable chapter of British design history. We admire its practical character: an everyday object with the presence of an apothecary piece and very little fuss.
The Ye Olde Bells Victorian Vocal Steamer draws inspiration from that historical design. Its purpose here is a modern ritual accessory, with no medical claims attached. The heritage lives in the shape, the materials, and the quiet pleasure of making time for a familiar routine.
For Today’s Busy Voices
Today, a working voice might belong to a choir member, a voice actor recording at home, a teacher preparing for class, or a speaker waiting in the wings. The settings have changed since the Victorian parlour. A few quiet minutes before taking one’s place still have their appeal.
Our set gives that pause a small sense of occasion. Plain warm water goes into the white glazed ceramic vessel. A standard tealight sits in the ceramic warmer below. There are no cords to arrange or batteries to replace. The ritual stays simple, while the candle calls for your attention throughout.
Details with Character
A black heritage label and hand-bell logo sit against the white glaze: a modest calling card for Ye Olde Bells. Three round vents punctuate the warmer base. The clear glass mouthpiece completes a silhouette that feels at home among music books, scripts, and well-loved objects.
That is the spirit of Ye Olde Bells: useful simplicity, visual character, and just enough ceremony. Something to bring out before rehearsal, put away with care, and return to when the next performance approaches.

The Dr Nelson's inhaler connection
Collectors know it as the Dr Nelson's steam inhaler, or Dr Nelson's Improved Inhaler: a white earthenware vessel with a glass mouthpiece, sold in Victorian London from the 1860s. Its makers advertised it with grand Victorian promises; we leave those firmly in the past. What we kept is the shape. Our Victorian Vocal Steamer is inspired by the classic Victorian Dr Nelson’s design and reimagined as a calm warm-steam ritual for singers and speakers: just add hot water, with an optional tealight warmer. Ye Olde Bells is an independent brand, not affiliated with or endorsed by the makers of Dr Nelson’s inhalers.

The classic shape, reimagined for singers
Our Victorian Vocal Steamer is based on the design of the classic Dr Nelson's steam inhaler: white ceramic, a glass mouthpiece and a vented warmer base for an optional tealight. We kept the shape and left the old advertising in the past.
